I was in need of a better way to manage my wet shaving supplies in my bathroom. I wanted a single unit that would hold all of my typical use items for a shave – my soap tin, brush, straight razor, and bottle of jojoba oil. I could not find anything to suit my needs, so it was time to come up with my own! Working in Fusion 360 I developed the design, printed it as a prototype, and eventually crafted it out of wood.
Having easy access to my own 3D printers I fabricated a printed version of my shave stand design for testing before I wanted to invest time, effort, and money into creating a final wooden version. The 3D print turned out great only needing a little support material for the brush mount and razor hole mounting point.
I used the 3D printed version for a couple of weeks to ensure I liked the design and that it was functional. I didn’t feel the need to make any changes to the design so I moved ahead and created a copy out of cherry wood that I stained with a color that I can no longer remember the name of (but it was chosen purely to try and match color to the bathroom cabinets that I had at the time). The wooden version was assembled in three pieces – the base that was cut out with a band saw and the shallow pockets routed out – the vertical which was cut with a bandsaw and a rectangular hole drilled/cut out from the top – the brush hook and razor hole mount that was cut with a bandsaw, drilled, and shaped with a lot of sanding.
